Studio J + Dream Village
Sourcing of pill boxes for portability and easy access to medication
The purpose of the low cost medicine pill boxes were to facilitate the portability of anti-HIV medication and its easy access for their young beneficiaries, mostly children.
Studio J reached out to manufacturers across India and identified a local vendor in Bangalore and was able to procure a batch of 900 pill boxes for the specified budget, instead of the 300 odd boxes which is what could have been procured in the wholesale market.
Focused volunteering took on a new dimension when Dream Village, a nonprofit organization that works with the under-served young HIV population in and around Kigali, Rwanda, reached out to explore the possibility of sourcing low cost medicine pill boxes. The purpose of these boxes were to facilitate the portability of anti-HIV medication and its easy access for their young beneficiaries, mostly children.
Initially, we tried sourcing the pill containers from the whole sale market. However, even at wholesale prices, the costs were not optimal for a nonprofit. It was at this point that Studio J, a Bangalore based experiential design firm working in the areas of hospitality, real estate and retail, offered to support us with this sourcing.
Over a period of 3 weeks, the team at Studio J reached out to manufacturers across India and identified a local vendor in Bangalore who offered us an array of pill boxes with different capacities at a fraction of the wholesale prices. Pictures of samples were sent to Dream Village to identify the most suitable option and a few emails later, we were able to procure a batch of 900 pill boxes for the specified budget, instead of the 300 odd boxes which is what could have been procured in the wholesale market.
Speaking about their experience of volunteering their business privilege, Jenny Andrews, the founder of Studio J said “Our key areas of service have always been human centric, be it consumer interface or building products and experiences around human challenges. When Dragonflies Everywhere reached out with a request for help in sourcing medicine pill boxes for Dream Village, we immediately knew we could do this, bringing together our expertise of sourcing with our team who works putting their heart and soul to empower humankind in aspects that they can.
Our contribution was to source what was required in a timely and cost effective manner. It didn’t cost us anything but I guess the intention is what matters. As the saying goes, That’s one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.”
